Why Inclusion?
We could tell you about our stance on inclusion—how
we believe in play for people of all ages and abilities;
how important it is that everyone shares in the physical,
sensory and social benefi ts of play; and how it’s about
more than just accessibility.
But nothing is as powerful as hearing it for yourself.
These families shared with us just how grateful they are
to have an inclusive playground nearby and why it’s a
life-changing gift for their children, their families, and
the community.
It’s about being a part of something.
“Zoe, what’s your favorite part of the playground?...
Yeah, you like kneeling on the RockR…because
you can play with everybody.”
—Ashley & daughter, Zoe
It creates empathy.
“This park off ers our kids the opportunity to
interact with other kids (their typically developing
peers), and we all know that if children play
together now as kids they grow up and have
better relationships and communities as adults…”
—Cindy
It’s about the whole family.
“As a parent, I love that it’s accessible to
everybody…and especially because a child doesn’t
have to feel diff erent, because they’re able to play
with other kids. All three (of my kids) can play
together and Jayla (who has spina bifi da) doesn’t
have to just sit and watch—that’s something
we’ve never had…”
—Chavila
